Day One- Team Arrives

Today was an early start for the team. We met in the CCOB parking lot at 3:45AM, loaded up the truck and vans and arrived in Newark at 5:00AM. Checking in 27 people and over 32 pieces of luggage turned out to be quite a challenge for the airlines.

Four boarding passes didn't print and we were warned the luggage may not make it. The ones that had boarding passes went ahead. The rest waited till the corrections could be made and off to security with only 20 minutes till departure. Once in security one of the bags that were flagged had a lock and we didn't have the key! Praise God after much praying, security cut the lock and removed a few items and we arrived at the gate at 6:40AM.  Thankfully, the flight was delayed and we were able to join everyone on board. I thought it was going to be the first short term trip where someone would be left behind!

We arrived in Santo Domingo on time and after loading up our luggage we headed out to SCORE ministries in Juan Dolio. We met up with Nathan and Erika, two missionaries serving at SCORE and assisted them with the Kids Club ministry that reaches out to kids in the surrounding village. We were able to share with the kids while we practiced our face painting and balloon animals followed by a good game of soccer. The team was a blessing to watch as they interacted with the kids. Despite the fact that all were tired, they didn't hesitate to jump at the opportunity to bless these kids and were introduced to being flexible in the mission field.

Tomorrow is an early day as we join to worship with the church in Consuelito. The church is located in one of the sugar cane villages and where Nathan serves as an interim pastor. Thank you for praying for the team, the weather here is very hot, and hot and hot..you get the point!
