Day Seven- Consuelito

The team returned to the village of Consuelito. This was the sugar cane village where we attended church service last Sunday. The day was rainy, and the dirt roads were full of puddles and pot holes. It took a long time to arrive, as  we had to go through an alternate road. We arrived with 48 bags of food and all the rest of the donated items we brought from NJ. Nathan came with the team and he gathered the families from the village in the church. Nathan introduced us and asked if we could share the Good News with them. It's great to see the way they minister to the people in the villages. The emphasis is never on the food or the items that we bring, but on the Lord who provides for all our needs.

We shared the message of salvation and On our trip back, we drove two women in our bus to the crossroad at the entry of the village. They thanked us, and happily walked home with their food bags.

Afterwards, the team headed back to Score.  On the way, our driver Daniel stopped at his house asking if anyone wanted to use the bathroom because we still had a 20 minute drive.  At first we thought his house was the one right on the road which was quite nice. Instead, he lead us down an alley, and we soon found out that he had a small tin/concrete/wooden house with a very small kitchen(about 4x5), living room(about 6x8), and outhouse.  It housed him, his wife and eight children(5 girls, 3 boys).  He and his wife were so proud of their home that once again it made us think.

We arrived back at Score. We heard on the news that a tropical storm was expected. The children jumped into the pool, and had jumping and diving contests. They stayed in until the storm started. About the time we started eating dinner, the storm really picked up. It was blowing so hard, our cafeteria area was flooded, and we had to huddle together away from the eating tables. The halls and rooms flooded. We stayed under the shelter near the pool playing dominoes.  Our last night in DR was definitely a memorable one! !!
