Haiti Relief Update 1/27 4:54 pm
Thanks for your continued prayers on behalf of the people of Haiti as well as those ministering throughout the island….
As the waves of refugees have, for the moment, subsided in Jimani, the team originally assigned to minister there has ventured into PaP and connected with CC Port-au-Prince.
The pastor there expressed the same thing we are hearing from many sources at this point: with food, water, and medicine gradually reaching more and more of the island, the next acute need will be for housing — tents and pre-fab houses. More and more sources are reporting that the relocation effort already underway from PaP will be greatly expanded in the coming days, and with the rainy season coming in March, we’re looking at a narrow window in which to help house tens of thousands of people.
Our team in Jacmel has been largely out of touch over the past two days. We’ve been relying on a satellite phone to stay in touch, and been able to receive only very brief, very choppy calls since Sunday night. We know the team is fine, but don’t have a full ministry update to pass on.
In the meantime, we are greatly encouraged by the many, many people interested in joining relief teams to Haiti. Once we’re back in touch with our folks on the ground, we’ll have a better sense of what they’ve been able to establish by way of infrastructure in Jacmel. That information, in turn, will let us begin getting very specific about how and when we’ll resume deploying teams.
One final note: the media has begun to express an interest in our initial team, now back in the US. Please pray that the Lord will use this exposure to bring glory to the work HE is doing in and among the Haitian people
